You have no doubt seen or heard the commercials: "Where does depression hurt? EVERYWHERE. Who does depression hurt? EVERYONE." Mental illnesses can consume you, take over your entire life and hurt everyone around you if you let it. I am no exception.

My life feels like I am stuck riding on a rollercoaster in the middle of a hurricane. I have ups and downs, and I have left a path of destruction in my wake. My sanity dangles on a tiny fragile string, and through this blog I am giving the world a look into my broken mind and my unstable life.

In the end, I am just a girl trying to maintain my sanity in a candy-coated world of misery. Here you'll get a glimpse at just how true those commercials are. Keep your arms and legs inside the blog at all times, hold on tight, and prepare yourself for a very bumpy ride ...

Asking a favor...

I haven't felt very bloggy this week, so I haven't blogged. Sorry about that.

My mom and I told my brother about his former friend committing suicide. He took it much much better than we expected. He seems to be handling it okay. His medicine seems to be helping him quite a bit. He's much less depressed and seems to be handling anxiety much better. He's definitely sleeping a whole lot better.

He asked me to burn a bunch of CDs with "happy upbeat" music for him to listen to. For him, that seems a little weird because he's never been much for listening to music, but I guess he's been listening to music when he's upset. He's the opposite of me. If I'm depressed, I listen to depressing music. He wants happy music to cheer him up. I'm at a loss overall for what music to download for him.

If anyone has any songs that help cheer them up when they're depressed, please leave me a comment and share them with me. I really need suggestions. I really want to help him, but all my music is slow and sad.

One of my favorites is What Faith Can Do by Kutless .... it always makes me feel just a little bit better.

Suggest Pandora online. He can start a station with just a couple of song titles and it'll take over from there.

Marybeth, that's a great suggestion. Thanks.

Karen, my brother and mom are basically anti-computer. They don't have a computer to access Pandora.

Mat Kearny has a really good one too...closer to love.

That one makes me cry (cuz I'm a dork)

oh AND Addison Road's "Hope now" that is an EXCELLENT song for when you feel hopeless.

(Sorry for the Christian Rock theme...but really, where better to turn when you are down?)

I suppose you could always have him listen to Miley Cyrus's the climb! LOL (ok i'll admit it, it's actually kinda a good song....*walks away in shame*)

Billy Joel, "You're Only Human (Second Wind)". Specifically written as an anti suicide song.

Like you, I want to purge my sadness by listening to sad, intense music, so it's a little hard for me, too.

REM, "Shiny Happy People".

Early Beatles-everything before Rubber Soul.

My Fair Lady.
