I'm looking for suggestions on what to read next. I'm looking for some mental health-related memoir type book. Something like "Loose Girl" and "Prozac Nation" and "Girl Interrupted."
Anyone got any ideas?
You have no doubt seen or heard the commercials: "Where does depression hurt? EVERYWHERE. Who does depression hurt? EVERYONE." Mental illnesses can consume you, take over your entire life and hurt everyone around you if you let it. I am no exception.
My life feels like I am stuck riding on a rollercoaster in the middle of a hurricane. I have ups and downs, and I have left a path of destruction in my wake. My sanity dangles on a tiny fragile string, and through this blog I am giving the world a look into my broken mind and my unstable life.
In the end, I am just a girl trying to maintain my sanity in a candy-coated world of misery. Here you'll get a glimpse at just how true those commercials are. Keep your arms and legs inside the blog at all times, hold on tight, and prepare yourself for a very bumpy ride ...
Feel free to comment here on the blog or email me at bpdokc@yahoo.com.

Augusten Burroughs' books are good. Mary Karr has some good ones. I draw a lot of strength from Anne LaMott's non fiction.
i totally agree on Agustun Burrogh
h's books, also David Sadaris, very good, any of Atul Gawande Gawande , MD's books ?, they are very well written, not you typical "doctor" books" .......Oh, so many! "The Bucolcolic Plague" By The Fabioloulous Beekman Boys (they have a wonderful tv show on Planut Green)....anything by by Jasmina Khadra....or David Dow......
Have you tried Kay Redfield Jamison? She has some great books.
You've probably already read this but Get Me Out Of Here by Rachel Reiland is a good one about dealing with BPD.
"Amen, Amen, Amen", about OCD is very good, i'm reading right now.
"Rolling Away My Agony With Ecstasy", by Lynn Marie Smith, sooo good (and the cover pic is very cool!), "Voluntary Madness", by Norah Vincent, annnnd, one of my VERY favorites, "Mount Misery", by Samuel Shem. (about Psychiatric Residents, but really pays atention to the patients), it's the sequel to "House of G-d".
Wow, thanks guys for all the suggestions. I have read "Get Me Out Of Here," but the rest are fair game. I've got a lot of book research/shopping to do now
